Following the bestselling success of his books Blink and The Tipping Point, author Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers presents another theory that has since become highly influential.
Gladwell says that story of why some people become highly successful is more complicated than simply their intelligence or ambition. He posits that we need to examine the families, birthplaces and even birth dates of highly successful people to understand how they achieved their success.
He explains that outliers are people set apart: “those people whose achievements fall outside normal experience.”
In Outliers, Gladwell introduces us to outliers who are “geniuses, business tycoons, rock stars and software programmers,” as well as lawyers, pilots and math whizzes. And he explores why and how these people have become extraordinarily successful through factors that are outside of the norm.
